Heavenly Peace

This postcard was created by my friend Laura who passed away. It is funny how I came to re-photograph and re-share it—in her honor. I was organizing my postcards, I have sleeved books where I keep and store them and hers fell out, the corner hit me on my ankle. It was a bit sharp, and it scratched me and gave me a paper cut. Not realizing whose it was I am getting ready to put it back— I see her name.  I say, “OK Laura, I got it, I will post it again.” Knowing even from the other side she has more to share with us.

Laura was a force to be reckoned with, she never had it easy in her life and yet instead of being bitter and cruel, she was one of the kindest women I know. She wrote a book, The Secret About Domestic Violence They Don’t Want You to Know coming from her own experiences. She was a major advocator in helping women leave abusive relationships. She founded, Me Too, No More which helped so many women and children on trauma from DV. She never stopped helping others with a smile on her face.

What struck me as I was looking at her postcard (this is only one side) are all the words of empowerment and hope, yet there was one thing on her card that I have never seen on anyone else’s postcard that I have, and I have received a lot. The words, “heavenly peace.” Was it a foreshadowing or just a coincidence? Whatever made her choose to use it, I know she has found it. And she is still spreading her message.

A reflection on loss and messages of hope. There's an undeniable poignancy in the phrase "heavenly peace." It's a concept that evokes images of tranquility, serenity, and a profound connection to something greater than ourselves. It's a sentiment that, in its simplicity, holds immense power.

It's particularly poignant when we consider the person who originally penned this affirmation. To have created something so inherently calming, so deeply resonant with the human soul, and then to no longer be here to experience its impact – it's a bittersweet paradox.

In a world often characterized by chaos and uncertainty, the pursuit of peace becomes an even more fervent desire. This affirmation, "heavenly peace," serves as a beacon, a reminder that amidst the storm, there is a calm to be found. It's a legacy left behind, a testament to the belief that peace is attainable, even in the face of life's inevitable challenges.

The death this beautiful woman doesn’t diminish its power. If anything, it adds a layer of depth. It's a reminder that while people may leave us, the ideas, the hopes, and the dreams they shared live on. In the case of "heavenly peace," it's a call to carry forward the torch of tranquility, to share this message with others, and to create a world where peace is not just a concept but a reality.

Perhaps, in honoring her memory, we can find solace in the knowledge that her words continue to inspire and comfort. Maybe "heavenly peace" is not just a destination, but a journey – one that we embark on together, guided by the light of those who came before us.
